Queens Life Guard and Queens Guard Changes During London 2012
London Disrtict Headquarters confirmed the following changes to the guard mount of the Queens Life Guard and Queens Guard Changes during London 2012, (the London Olympics)
From Monday, 18th June 2012 until the middle of September, access to Horse Guards Parade will be significantly limited due to construction work for an Olympic venue.
Security fencing around large parts of St James’s Park and The Mall will close access to Horse Guards Road.
The stands for the Olympic beach volleyball venue will be built as soon as the stands for the Queen’s Birthday Parade have been removed. Construction is expected to begin as soon as the 19th or 20th of June.
Queen’s Life Guard (QLG) of The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment:
During the period Saturday, 16th June through Wednesday 25th July when the Olympic Route Network goes live, the QLG will arrive at the Front Yard via Birdcage Walk, Parliament Square and Whitehall.
For each QLG change, the Front Yard will be closed to the public at 10.30am (Monday – Saturday) and 9.30am on Sundays.
From 25th July, the QLG will change to Horse Guards Avenue, and further details will be announced closer to the time.
The QLG changes daily at 11.00am (10.00am on Sundays); the public may also view the 4 o’clock inspection in the Front Yard.
Queen’s Guard (QG) of The Foot Guards:
During the period Monday, 18th June to Wednesday, 25th July, the QG will carry out normal Guard change procedures except that entry to St James’s Palace will be via Stable Yard Road instead of Marlborough Road.
From Wednesday, 25th July, the route will change to accommodate the Oympic Route Network, and further details will be announced closer to the time.
